MILTON "DOC" HOLDEN

Stephen Johnson

The perennial Palm Beach/New York/Long Island batchelor, Doc Holden was an early croqueteer. Holden preferred the South Hanpton/English style, one stake and a severe boundary line, on which he would lurk waiting to pounce upon a more aggressive but less wise opponent. Holden more than anyone was the dean of Palm Beach croquet and the USIA Eastern Singles Trophy is named for him in that rarified climate.

Milton "Doc" Holden was inducted into the United States Croquet Hall of Fame in 1979.
