FULL BIO

Moss Hart was a partner of George S. Kaufman in croquet as well as in the theater. After several of their great successes on Broadway (Once in a Lifetime, etc.), Moss moved to Bucks County, as did the Kaufmans, and there he joined the croquet fanatics, bringing Pennsylvania into the list of croquet states. Hart was also a California mallet-wielder and the attraction of theater/film folk for this most mental of athletic contests helped establish the first great East and West Coast rivalry in the late 30's. Mrs. Hart (Kitty Carlisle) was more on-looker than participant in her late husband's croquet matches, though occasionally she would join the mayhem.

Moss Hart was inducted into the United States Croquet Hall of Fame in 1979.
